The Cape Town Container Terminal plays a pivotal role in the regional economy. It is well positioned to facilitate the movement of containerised cargo to and from the Asian, European, American and Australian markets.
With a combined capacity of 3.6 million TEUs, Durban Container Terminal is amongst the busiest in Africa and is ideally located to serve as a hub terminal for containerized cargo from the Indian Ocean Islands, Middle East, Far East and Australasia. The Durban Container Terminal opened on 1 July 1977 and handled 78 493 container moves during the first year.
The East London terminal has a RO-RO facility which has retained its 8th NOSCAR status, the largest grain silo on the South African coastline and a combi terminal with comprehensive facilities for handling containerized traffic and break-bulk cargo.
Ngqura Container Terminal was designed as a state-of-the-art transhipment hub, servicing traffic from East, South America and West Africa markets. The port accommodates super post-panamax vessels with deep water berths, and is pivotal to the Coega Industrial Development Zone which provide full intermodal connectivity
