Risk management and safety are at the core of our business hence Transnet Port Terminals is implementing risk-based safety management systems.
All the risks are managed through operational and administrative processes to achieve acceptable safety standards whilst pursuing business objectives. A standard risk management methodology has been adopted wherein all risks are identified and analysed based on consequence and likelihood of emerging. These are evaluated, prioritised, treated and monitored using the hierarchy of controls to ensure a sustained level of protection.
In this regard, TPT has identified 10 top business wide risks and controls which are reviewed monthly to determine their effectiveness. This approach allows TPT to proactively control risks rather than react to accidents or system failures. It also encourages cost efficiencies through aggressive risk treatment.
Transnet Port Terminals has achieved the Cost of Risk targets as set by Transnet Group for three consecutive years. This measure is a function of the total cost of running the safety risk programme in relation to the percentage of revenue earned.
